I am the kind of person who, when I find a brush I really like, feels compelled to buy an entire set. I’m sure I am not the only one who does this but as you can imagine, it can get quite expensive!
So, I was especially pleased when, in a recent watercolor workshop, the instructor had brushes available for participants to try that were both very versatile and surprisingly inexpensive.
The brush is Simply Simmons, by Robert Simmons. I am familiar with the Robert Simmons brand. I have a small set of Robert Simmons White Sable brushes, but I had never tried their Simply Simmons line of brushes. In the workshop we each got to test out a 1 inch flat and a number 12 round. I was impressed with the spring and flow of the brushes and was even more impressed when I found out how reasonably they are priced.
I decided to buy a set for my studio and discovered they are excellent for use with acrylic too. I now use these more for acrylic than my other acrylic brushes. Unlike the long handles of many standard acrylic brushes, these have short handles which are perfect for use in my studio.
My set consists of one large flat, two washes, four rounds, two filberts, and a small liner. You might want to check them out the next time you are shopping for brushes!
